Rain Delay FAQs
Jul 27, 2026

At the Odlum Brown VanOpen, we love a sunny day of world-class tennis, but sometimes Mother Nature has other plans. When rain rolls in, player safety comes first and play pauses until the courts are dry. The answers below cover what to expect and where to find updates.
Where can I check for updates?
Follow our website and social channels for updates on delays, cancellations, and gate opening times. We’ll post as soon as decisions are made.
When will a final decision be made?
The final call on cancellation is at the discretion of the ATP and WTA, and every effort is made for play to occur each day. We hold off as long as possible to give play every chance to resume — two of our courts have lights, allowing us to play late into the evening.
How does the rain delay affect the order of play and draws?
When play is delayed, matches are rescheduled to the earliest available time. An updated daily Order of Play will be posted to our website as soon as we have it.
Can I exchange my tickets for another day?
While tickets are non-refundable, if a day has been fully cancelled due to a rainout, please contact guestservices@vanopen.com and our team will review your options.
What is your refund policy?
As per our ticket policy, tickets are purchased for a specific day and are non-refundable in the event of a rainout or delay. If a day has been fully cancelled due to a rainout, please contact guestservices@vanopen.com. We’re grateful for your understanding and support.
Why aren’t matches moved indoors?
The decision to move matches indoors is made by the ATP and WTA, and indoor play is only used when necessary to help complete the tournament. Unfortunately, due to limited capacity, indoor matches are not open to spectators. Weather delays are a normal part of outdoor tennis, and player safety requires that courts be completely dry before play can resume. We appreciate your patience as we work with tournament officials to get matches underway as soon as conditions allow.
What happens if play is cancelled after I’ve already arrived?
Once matches begin, or if a session is called after gates open, the day is considered played and standard non-refundable terms apply. We’ll always do our best to complete as much play as conditions allow.
Can I still come and wait out the rain?
Absolutely. Gates remain open during delays, and our tented Village Lounge offers a covered space to relax while you wait (seating is limited), so we recommend bringing an umbrella and rain jacket. Before heading to the grounds, please check our website and social channels for the latest rain delay updates.
Are food, beverage, and merchandise still available during a delay?
Yes — concessions and vendors remain open during weather delays, so you can grab a bite or a drink while you wait.
